About Me

Hello there!! My name is Shelbi. Welcome to my little corner of the World Wide Web. I don't always get to post as much as I would like, but when I get a chance I post an update on my life, an interesting tidbit from a class or church, and sometimes it ends up being something that has been on my mind for a while. To start I'll try to give you a little preview of who I am and what my life is like!

I am 22 years old. I am in my fourth year at Olivet Nazarene University. I am currently on track to graduate with an Associate's in Child Development in May 2015 and a Bachelor's in Christian Education in May 2016. Unlike many college students who leave campus every chance they get and avoid staying on campus over the summer, I have been living in the community since I moved here in August 2011. I leave for roughly 3-4 weeks a year and I spend the rest of my time here at school and interning at my church. I am a total book worm (not kidding, I own 400+ books...) and wish I wasn't restricted on my personal library space! Fiction or nonfiction, mystery or comedy, if they have a good story and keep me interested then I will read them. I am also a foodie! I grew up with home cooked meals all the time and my mom thought that learning to cook and bake was a key skill. I have been spoiled in the area of food and am picky in regards to how something is prepared and cooked not so much in regards to what it is. I love music and listen to a wide variety. Just wish I could play an instrument in order to play them myself! I absolutely love and adore little kids! Specifically those from preschool on down, hence my Child Development degree. Give me a room full of them over a room full of adults any day! They truly are the best and they are such a blessing from God!

Journey Church Intern Team 2013
I am currently doing something I absolutely enjoy as my job! I am serving as a year long intern at my church, Journey Church, in the position of a Semester Missionary. I have attended Journey for 2 1/2 years and have worked with them two summers, although last summer was my first full time summer as a Student Missionary. I am getting ready to start my third and official second summer working with Journey! The above picture is of all of us who were on the intern team last summer (and yes, that is an octopus that Bri is holding!). I get the immense blessing of serving alongside some amazing men and women, as well as getting to serve and minister to incredible people day in and day out throughout the year. It may not be the most high paying job out there, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Through Journey and because of my Child Development degree, I get the opportunity to work with kids like the two crazy wonderful kids above among many others! They are such a blessing and they truly bring so much joy to my life! From nights doing arts and crafts while mom and dad go on a date night to an hour long drive to church volleyball, they always bring a smile. God has blessed me with the opportunity to not only pour into their lives, but to have their energy and their positivity be a part of my life even on my not so great days! Children truly are one of the best blessings!

"The Last Breakfast" with my roommates, 'roommates', and some wonderful friends that have been an incredible support these last three years and such a blessing from God!

My life is often crazy running around between anywhere between 5-8 classes, ministry work, campus activities, coffee dates and dinner dates with friends and youth group girls, keeping up with my summer campers, and so much more! The last picture above is just one of many that showcase the many wonderful friends I have made the last few years at college and through church. My life is so full and sometimes I forget how much I have been blessed. Some days are absolute insanity in a good way while others are not. Yet everyday I am reminded that I have amazing friends, awesome family, a wonderful job and an absolutely incredible Heavenly Father!

While that is a quick overview of who I am and what my life is like, the most important part of all of it, as you may have picked up on, is my faith. I am so blessed with everyone and everything in my life and it is all because of God! He is the reason that I am where I am today and I could not thank Him enough for it! Yes, all of the things mentioned above are a huge part of who I am and what my life is, but the most important part of who I am is the fact that I am a Child of God. A Child of The Most High. Who I am is all because of Him and nothing I do is worth much at all if I don't have a relationship with Him.

So while this blog will cover all kinds of crazy things about my life, such as ultimate frisbee with an octopus, it will also contain a lot about my Father. I hope that the things that I write honor and glorify Him and that they will lead people to look to Him and not me. This blog is about my life, but my life is only what it is because of Him!
